Pipkins Fruit & Vegetable Mkt

"When Steve Pipkin graduated from college, he wanted to go into farming. But, he says, “I needed to know how to sell the stuff I was going to grow.” So he got a job at a fruit market—and wound up discovering his calling. Six years later, in 1983, he opened Pipkin’s Fruit and Vegetable Market in Blue Ash, and the shop has been a neighborhood institution ever since. Much of the produce at Pipkin’s is local, and Steve—along with his brother and business partner, Ben Pipkin—deal directly with farmers six days a week. When asked what sets Pipkin’s apart, Steve cites the fact that he and Ben taste everything. “When we get peaches, we try to get peaches that taste good. We don’t buy plums unless they taste good. We look at almost every piece of produce that we buy for quality.” Three years after Pipkin’s opened its doors, Steve and Ben started selling flowers, too, and garden goods have grown into a large portion of the store’s business. The outdoor garden center is lined with colorful planters, ceramics, outdoor art (curated by Steve’s wife, Kim), and rows of flowers and trees. And, oh yes, Steve hand-selects the plants weekly. The owners’ attention to detail doesn’t end with the stock. In addition to knowing all about the peaches and plums (and corn, and tomatoes, and green beans...), Steve can also tell you about many of the trees on the property because he planted them himself 15 years ago. “It’s a lot of fun,” he says. “I really like what I do, and I like the people I work with.” Sounds like a pretty good business plan to us."

Growing Trade Pet & Plant

Growing Trade Pet & Plant sells high quality goods for your animals, plants, and homestead, plus supplies and gear for hard working people. We strive to carry only the best. At the same time, we recognize that not every customer has the budget to buy extremely expensive merchandise, no matter how good it may be. Growing Trade strikes a balance between quality and price you won’t find at other stores – even our cheaper items are good and trustworthy. Where possible, we carry lower priced options to the more expensive brands. No matter how good a reputation a brand may carry, very often they change hands, change location, and tweak their formulas. That is why we constantly evaluate every brand, every product we carry to make sure it continues to meet our standards. Honesty about the products we carry is of critical importance. We don’t owe a manufacturer or distributor anything, and will not blindly follow anyone’s marketing plan just to make a few sales. We strive to give our customers an honest assessment of a brand, so they have all the information needed to make the best choice for their animals and families. Cheap manufacturing in Asia seems to be the rule today, and many things are absolutely impossible to source elsewhere. Because of safety concerns, we do not sell any food or treat made in China, and with a few notable (and completely safe) exceptions, all our feed is made and sourced in the USA. We also make it a point to buy from local producers whenever possible, and champion their brands in our store.
