Eric Burgmaier has over 20 years of healthcare industry experience in public accounting, private industry, and academic institutions. Eric is a graduate of Clarkson University, Potsdam NY, with a BS Accounting degree, and started his career in “Big 6” Public Accounting in New York. He moved to NM in 1998 while working for Cigna.
As Burgmaier & Associates, Inc., Eric partnered with Dan Helton, a CPA with over 35 years of experience to form Burgmaier and Helton, CPAs LLC in January of 2010 which is now Burgmaier & Associates, Inc.
In January of 2016, Eric and Norton Hindley of The Hindley Group created a new firm, the Hindley Burgmaier Group. After Norton's sudden passing in the summer of 2016, Eric and his team continued Norton's mission of working with dentists to become strong entrepreneurs and owners to create a dental practice which is a valuable asset.
As Vice President of Finance and Revenue Cycle Management for ABQ Health Partners, LLC, Eric was responsible for the preparation and analysis of profit and loss statements of over 200 individual physicians as well as provided financial leadership of the Revenue Cycle Department. In his position, he managed payer relationships which included reviewing payment compliance and denial management. Eric also established RVU and visit benchmarks and cash flow forecasting models to objectively analyze physician compensation. Eric was one of three non-physicians members of the Physician Compensation Committee.
As CFO of the University of New Mexico School of Medicine Physician Group, one of the largest multispecialty physician groups in the south west Eric was responsible for the financial integrity of all financial reporting and analysis of the group.
Eric served two terms as President of the New Mexico Chapter of Health Care Financial Management Association. He continues to be active in the Region 10 Conference, and currently is establishing an education committee dedicated specifically to the issues faced by rural health care facilities in the state of New Mexico. Eric is also very involved with the New Mexico Chapter of Medical Group Management Association, co-chairing the 2010-2011 program and education committee.
For the past three years Eric has held a monthly educational event in Albuquerque, New Mexico, called The Doc Spot. The Doc Spot events focus on practice ownership through different subject matter. He has participated in the University of New Mexico's Dental Residency Program as an educator and was invited to speak at a leadership group formed through the New Mexico Veterinarian Medical Association's "Power of 10".
Eric has just recently been invited to present an 8 hour CPE program on Physician Finances to the Oklahoma and California State Society of CPA’s.
